At The Beauty Barn®, patient care has always been about more than treatments. It’s about trust, safety, education, natural results, and treating every patient like family. That philosophy is deeply rooted in the leadership, expertise, and heart of Julie Thorne, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC.

Julie is not only a co-founder of The Beauty Barn® alongside Dr. Amy Hubert, but also a Master Injector, Allergan trainer (the makers of Botox® Cosmetic), and national speaker at leading professional conferences, including the AAFPRS Annual Meeting with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Her advanced training, clinical experience, and national recognition all support the same mission she brings to every patient interaction: doing aesthetics the right way.

With a background in patient care and a passion for natural, thoughtful results, Julie helped create The Beauty Barn® as a medical aesthetics practice where patients feel cared for, educated, safe, and confident every step of the way. Whether she is teaching other providers, speaking on a national stage, or creating a personalized treatment plan in the treatment room, Julie’s approach is rooted in connection, safety, and undetectable outcomes.

Q&A with Julie Thorne, DNP

How long have you been in medicine and aesthetics?

I have been in medicine since 2004 and in aesthetics since 2020. My background in patient care has shaped the way I approach aesthetics because, at the end of the day, this is still medicine. Patient safety, education, trust, and outcomes always come first.

What inspired you to work in aesthetics?

I was inspired to go into aesthetics after seeing how many ways this industry could treat patients incorrectly. That really motivated me to help create something different. When Dr. Amy and I co-founded The Beauty Barn®, our intention was always to treat every patient like a friend or family member. We wanted to build a practice where doing the right thing was the standard, not the exception.

What do you love most about working with patients at The Beauty Barn®?

I feel like I can honestly say, “mission accomplished” when it comes to prioritizing patient safety, amazing outcomes, and always doing the right thing by our patients. We have created a true family culture from within our staff, and that extends to every patient who comes through our doors. That is one of the things I am most proud of.

How would you describe your approach to patient care?

My approach is very relationship-based. I want to connect with people, hear their stories, understand their concerns, and help prioritize what they need to do to achieve their goals.

Aesthetic treatments can feel overwhelming when you are first getting started. There are so many options, and it is not always easy to know what you really need. I love helping patients understand what makes sense for them, what can wait, and what will give them the most natural, balanced outcome.

What is one thing you wish more patients understood before starting aesthetic treatments?

I wish more patients understood that aesthetics is a journey. There is no one treatment, one series, or one protocol that will “fix” every part of the aging process. Aesthetics follows us through a lifetime of changes in our skin, our health, our weight, and even our personal acceptance of aging.

The best results usually happen over time with consistency, good skincare, thoughtful treatment planning, and a provider who understands your face and your goals.

What would you say is one of your biggest strengths as a provider?

My ability to connect with people. I love hearing patients’ stories and understanding what is really bothering them. Sometimes a patient comes in thinking they need one thing, but after talking through their concerns and looking at the whole picture, we may realize there is a better path to get them where they want to go.

Helping patients prioritize their treatment plan in a way that feels realistic and aligned with their goals is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

What kind of results do you love helping patients achieve?

My motto has always been, “The best injectable is undetectable.”

To me, that means natural, subtle results that make someone feel rested, refreshed, and more like themselves. I never want someone to look “done.” I want them to look confident, balanced, and like the best version of themselves.

Julie’s Approach to Injectables

What is one of your favorite injectable techniques to perform?

I love using the tacking method to help reposition sagging tissue. Patients leave feeling refreshed and lifted, which is always so rewarding.

And shoutout to Voluma!

How do you approach creating natural-looking results?

Full facial balancing gives the best results. That means we are not just looking at one line, one wrinkle, or one area in isolation. We are looking at the skin, the structure, the way the face moves, and how everything works together.

For the most natural and balanced results, we may use skin rejuvenation treatments, Botox to soften wrinkles and prevent pulling, and hyaluronic acid filler to re-volumize and reposition tissue. When everything is done thoughtfully, the result looks much more natural.

What is one injectable treatment you think is underrated?

PDGF. It has so many great uses and can help stimulate collagen, which makes it such an exciting option for patients who want to support skin quality and long-term rejuvenation.

What is the most common misconception patients have about Botox or filler?

A lot of people think about the overdone results they have seen and assume that is what Botox or filler always looks like. I try to reassure patients that most people walking around with well-placed, appropriately dosed injectables are not detectable. When done well, injectables should not announce themselves.

How do you help patients feel comfortable if they are nervous about injections?

I try to explain exactly what to expect so there are no surprises. I also think it is important for patients to know they are being treated by some of the top injectors in the country. Our providers serve in all types of roles, committees, complication panels, and advisory boards. Patients are in incredibly capable and well-trained hands here.

Feeling nervous is normal, especially if it is your first time. Education and trust in your provider make all the difference.

What kind of patient transformation is most rewarding to you?

My favorite transformation is when we look at a photo from three or four years ago and compare it to today, especially for someone who has treated aesthetics as a journey.

Maybe they have used medical-grade skincare, done a laser or microneedling treatment once a year, and stayed consistent with injectable treatments. Seeing the look on their face when they realize they actually look younger than they did three or four years ago truly warms my heart.

Those are the moments that remind me why this work is so meaningful!
